GB3CA IRLP Node History

November 2008

M0YDP asked me about setting up Internet linking on GB3CA repeater. I informed him that Mike G6PHF may have a redundant node. He contacted Mike and wheels were set in motion to purchase the node computer from Mike. The IRLP PC was purchased by M0YDP. Mick G0JGS then modified a PMR Key Radio for CTCSS with a home built CTCSS board, which he then installed in the radio.

December 2008

Steve M0YDP was in contact with me about setting the IRLP system up, I said that if he brought the radio / interconnecting leads / IRLP PC down to my location then I would set it all up for him. Steve brought it all down including a diagram of the connections for the Key radio drawn up by Mick G0JGS. I found that the PC was a bit slow so installed all the bits (Hard drive, IRLP Board, Sound card) in a faster PC (Celeron 466 with 128Mb Ram). I then had to do a backup of the IRLP files including PGP keys and then install a later operating system. This was done and the IRLP files restored, configuration was altered to reflect the new Callsign of GB3CA. I then installed EchoIRLP (the linux version of EchoLink) and also installed Remote Admin for administration over the web. NTP was installed to keep the PC clock synchronised to an atomic locked time server.

Steve came down and collected the system on Saturday 6th December and it was on air on the repeater Sunday 7th December.
