About Me
I used to be employed by British Telecom plc, or BT as they now like
to be known. I Maintained
Microwave Radio Links operating in the freq bands of 4Ghz, 6Ghz, 11Ghz,
18Ghz and 38Ghz ! These Radio Links carry 140Mbits/sec Digital Links between
BT's Core sites, and carry PSTN traffic PRIVATE Circuits and also Digital
Blocks for TV. I also maintain Analogue Microwave Radio Links which carry
Analogue TV Links between Studio and Transmitter Sites and also carry analogue
private circuits ! I also maintained Optical Fibre Links for BT's Main
Network, which operate at 140Mbits/sec and 565Mbits/sec.
I am now retired, or should I say that I took Early voluntary
retirement.
By night I am involved very often with my main hobbies, packet radio
and computing I am very much 'into' amateur packet radio networking,
UNIX.G6CRV.AMPR.ORG and GB7CRV Linux FBB BBS
I run a system at home on g6crv.ampr.org which has AXIP links to amateur
systems abroad. This system is running now under Linux-ELF (unix.g6crv.ampr.org)
ax25-utils, Linux-FBB and (g6crv.ampr.org) TNOS developed by Brian
Lantz (KO4KS) ! The PC's running this are a Pentium P120 with 64Mb Ram,
1.7Gb HD, Matrox Millennium 4Mb Wram, 21 Inch Monitor and a 486dx33 with
16Mb Ram and 340Mb Hard Drive. They are dedicated to running the Link to
the Gateway at Lancaster University, with user ports on 2m (144.8625 Mhz)
4m (70.3125 Mhz) and 70cm (432.625 Mhz). I have an ethernet link between
the 2 PC's, and run AXIP over the ethernet between the 2 nodes G6CRV-10
and G6CRV-1.
There are other ports for linking , 23cm to Blackpool GB7FYL, 70cm
to GB7MBC DXCluster and 70cm to GB7BIG on the Isle of Man.
The link to Blackpool is for mail forwarding between my BBS GB7CRV
and GB7FYL.
The 2 70cm links
are for DXCluster linking between GB7MBC in Morecambe to GB7ADX on the
Isle of Anglesey and GB7UDX in Northern Ireland.
The Lurpac Gateway
The LURPAC System is
located at The University of Lancaster. The LURPAC system at present serves
the local amateur packet radio community in the Lancaster area. It provides,
amongst other things, a gateway to the world wide packet network, via similar
gateways in other countries.
This is a picture of me outside the Radio Station at Heysham !
This is a picture of the radio station at Whinfell Common in Cumbria,
one of the stations that I used to maintain The WC nodes were located here.
The 2m antenna is a folded dipole on the top of the mast, the 4m antenna
is also a folded dipole on the south side of the mast. the picture was
taken looking at the north side of the mast. The 23cm antenna is a 23ele
Tonna Yagi pointing towards Blackpool ontop of the waveguide gantry adjacent
to the equipment room window.
All the antenna's have now been relocated to my home location
in Heysham, and are used to run the Linux Node, TNOS and F6FBB BBS at GB7CRV
/ G6CRV-1 / G6CRV-10 / G6CRV-5.
